Westmorland School was established in 1962 by a small group of parents interested in providing a quality education for their children, based on the PNEU System (Parents National Education Union), the source being Westmorland, England. The school is a non-profit, non-denominational, co-educational, and totally private institution, situated at Mt. Helicon on Marrast Hill, just outside of St. George’s. It began with sixteen (16) students. By 1970 it had grown to one hundred and eleven (111) children attending the school. The secondary section started in 1974. Since then, the school facilities have grown to accommodate the student population, which today, reaches over three hundred (300).

Westmorland School spans 3 acres, situated in one of the most beautiful and well-manicured gardens within the island of Grenada, Carriacou and Petit Martinique; home to rare plants and exotic flowers, a basketball court, science and computer laboratories, libraries, reading lab, playgrounds and lunchtime gazebos.

The school is home to a well-diversified faculty and student background, with many nationalities represented, and many languages spoken, including; Chinese, English, Spanish, Dutch, French and German. As well as our many gifted and tri-lingual students, Westmorland School also welcomes, and has successfully graduated students of various learning abilities, and capabilities, including those with learning disabilities. The school population is now split about 50/50 between local/regional students and international students from around the world including Europe, Asia, America, Africa, Australia. The faculty and staff of the school are international, tri-lingual, highly qualified and well-trained.

The school offers a comprehensive curriculum with emphasis on small classes and minimum teacher/student ratios. These small classes help to individualize each student’s learning process, and achieve maximum individual success resulting in overall high levels of success. The curriculum includes subjects from the foreign languages, arts, humanities, science, business and technical categories. Each course of study is typically presented in 40-minute sessions up to 4 times per week. The school year is divided into 3 semesters and spans 39 weeks.

The objective of the school is to develop individual potential and to create an environment where students may acquire the knowledge, skills and attitudes needed to contribute a healthy society and sustainable economy. To develop these characteristics, the school focuses on intellectual, human, social, spiritual and career development.
