For yet another year, the Grenada Secondary Schools’ Games Association (GSSGA) in collaboration with the Scotiabank, has worked timelessly behind the scenes to ensure the successful delivery of this the Scotiabank Inter-Secondary School Athletic Championships, known simply as INTERCOL. Scotiabank INTERCOL Games has become a buzz word for the secondary level student who, through the exemplar of our ‘home-grown’ Olympian, Kirani James and right behind him Rondell Bartholomew, has been given an excellent view of success on the track. Rising stars like Kenisha Pascal and Princess Whiteman point out that females are not to be outdone, as well, on the field of play.
Today the Ministry of Education and Human Resource Development wishes to applaud the focused energies and passion of the GSSGA and the excellent partnership and financial support that has come, once more, from the Scotiabank, despite the harsh economic realities of the business climate.
Sports and sportsmanship must be celebrated today. Endeavour and determination must be lifted high. All achievement in 2016 Scotiabank INTERCOL must be seen as part of the grooming process, in the development of world - class athletes.
Ladies and gentlemen, this year the GSSGA celebrates the hosting of its 51st INTERCOL event, just one year shy of half century of sustained focus on competitive track and field. The organization must be highly commended for its untiring efforts in this area and its unlocking of the potentials of and for our student athletes. Such potentials include the possibilities of scholarship opportunities and the heightened likelihood of employment along lucrative career paths.
Let us not despise the humble beginnings nationally of many of our star athletes today. Let us instead view today’s activities as stepping stones towards even greater sporting achievements, nationally, regionally and at an international level.
The Ministry of Education once again thanks the Scotiabank for its prolonged sponsorship of these games. May this partnership go from strength to strength.
May 2016 SCOTIABANK INTERCOL GAMES bring success, joy and self-fulfillment to all participants.
Please accept my best wishes for a fruitful and rewarding INTERCOL Games 2016.
Hon. Anthony Boatswain
Minister for Education & Human Resource Development
