We are pleased to welcome you to the 2017 Scotiabank INTERCOL Games. At Scotiabank, we recognize that sports play an invaluable role in the lives of our students, schools and the community in general. This is why Scotiabank is delighted to have sponsored these valuable Games for 37 years to date.

Scotiabank has a very strong philanthropic programme throughout all the communities we serve, supporting sports and culture, and championing health care for children in particular. In 2013 The Grenada HIV Care Foundation/Scotiabank “Together We Care” campaign was launched to raise $50,000 to assist with public education and provide support for those living with HIV/AIDS. As part of our 50th anniversary in Grenada, we also donated to the General Hospital’s laundry unit and children’s ward. Our Kiddy Cricket Festival which is part of our Kiddy Cricket Programme continues with added investment in cricket camps. These programmes help participants acquire an interest in the sport as well as to develop skills that benefit participants for a lifetime.

At Scotiabank being a part of a community is more than providing comprehensive products and excellent service through our branches.  We understand the importance of healthy, vibrant communities and it is part of our mission to support and strengthen the communities we are a part of by participating and initiating activities that benefit our communities, our customers and stakeholders – the INTERCOL Games is just such an initiative.

The importance of sport to our youth and to the public at large has far-reaching effects and this is why we are so delighted to be here today. Sport makes life changing moments possible, I am sure we all remember August 6, 2012 when Kirani James won the gold medal at the summer Olympics London in a series of firsts: first medal, first gold medal for Grenada, clocked a new national record and he is now the only sprinter from outside the United States to break the 44-second barrier.

How many other future medalists will pass through and participate in the INTER-COL Games? How many of you are future gold medalists? Scotiabank is pleased to participate in the development of Grenada, Carriacou and Petit Martinique’s young athletes through the Scotiabank INTER-COL Games.

Scotiabank has more than 81,000 employees, in over 55 countries, serving over 19 million customers. We are all dedicated to uncovering opportunities that can make our customers more successful and better off in today’s changing and uncertain times. We do this by providing expertise, building relationships and providing the advice and solutions that are right for you to reach your financial goals. Uncovering your financial potential gives you the power to do more. To live better today than you did yesterday. To achieve what’s possible.

So as we wish our athletes an enjoyable and successful two days of competition, let us remember that the lessons learnt here – of sportsmanship, effort, integrity, and respect – will develop character and leadership for future generations.

On behalf of Scotiabank, I would like to thank the organizers of INTERCOL for their commitment; and parents, teachers, the general public and Scotiabank staff members for their enthusiastic support. We wish the students a fun-filled and successful 2017 Scotiabank INTERCOL Games.
